A great painting from the second half of the 18th century. Oil on canvas artwork depicting a splendid Italian landscape in Arcadian style, a pastoral scene set in the Roman countryside. The painting displays characteristics typical of a genre that enjoyed great international success and experienced a renewed splendor during the Romantic era. Naturalistic precision thus combines with a sentimental appreciation for rural life, a view that transcends simple realism to evoke an ideal world.

This painting is attributed to Johan Matiaz Wuerzer (1760-1838), a German master celebrated for his lively animal compositions. (The painting is currently not accompanied by an expert opinion, but one can be requested upon payment of the relevant additional costs.) Cattle, horses, goats, and sheep are rendered with extraordinary naturalism and luminosity, within a classical landscape dominated by ancient ruins and a soft light.

The almost scientific attention to naturalistic details is remarkable, particularly the animals' fur, with excellent highlights and tonal transitions. Artwork with a strong decorative impact, ideal for prestigious spaces, whether classic or modern, it appeals to discerning collectors seeking a refined painting. Spectacular 20th-century frame in carved and gilded wood, with some signs of aging. The work has already been restored with re-lining, replacement of the stretcher, and recoloring in small areas. Overall in good condition. Internal dimensions: H 81 x W 115 cm.
