A refined 18th-century French painting. This artwork oil on canvas depicts a romantic party, a typical genre scene of the Rococo period, set in an aristocratic garden in Arcadian style. Elegantly attired young ladies and gentlemen are captured in a moment of conversation and leisure. The composition unfolds with a theatrical, circular flow, perfectly calibrated to the oval format, with an exquisite balance between the figures in the foreground and the trees in the background.

The visual fulcrum is the central group, where a young woman in a white dress listens to a love poem from her suitor. The landscape is rendered in deep greens and nuanced blues, creating a suspended and slightly melancholic atmosphere, evidently inspired by the painting of Antoine Watteau. The light is diffuse, free of strong contrasts, and envelops the figures with an almost silky effect. The draperies are soft, rendered with fluid, light brushstrokes, and pastel colors dominate the composition. The painting has undergone restoration with the canvas mounted on a panel and retouching of the color in small spots.
