The painting is adorned with a richly carved and gilded modern frame, beautifully decorated. The artwork has undergone conservative restoration, including relining, replacement of the stretcher, and retouching of small areas of color. The figure is beautifully painted down to the smallest details, from the unusual hat to the nib between the fingers.
