A splendid 17th-century religious painting. This artwork oil on canvas depicts one of the most significant moments of Jesus' childhood: Christ among the Doctors in the Temple. After getting lost during the pilgrimage to Jerusalem, the young Jesus is found by his parents in the Temple while he discusses with the doctors of the law, arousing wonder at his precocious wisdom.
At the center of the composition, Christ stands out with a luminous face, seemingly arguing authoritatively with a measured gesture of his hand. Around him, the doctors react with varying expressions—astonishment, doubt—giving rise to an intense visual dialogue. A painting of good pictorial quality, where the close-up composition and strong chiaroscuro recall the Caravaggesque tradition of the Neapolitan school. The variety of characters is particularly fascinating, especially the figure of the bespectacled scholar, a rare detail of everyday realism that accentuates the theatrical nature of the scene.
